'i feel that the story underground to canada is a very interesting book! it describes how illtreated slaves are treated and how much agony they have to go through. barbara smucker focuses on how the slaves strive for freedom and how eventually they succeed. there are four slaves running away from the riley plantation: adam, lester, liza and julilly. it also describes the torture slaves have to go through, how they are whipped and what it actually feels like when one looses someone special. A heart-warming book about the terrible suffering and discrimination coloured people had to endure. Smucker uses beautiful language to convey how desperate Julilly and Liza are for freedom and to emphasise that there is hope in the world.

I thought this book was very good and quite well written. I thought it had a very good lesson in it and I think it is a good book for teens to read because it teaches them a lot about slavery and what goes on in the past.
