Danger Zone Africa
The San Bushmen
The 'Bushmen' are the oldest tribes of southern Africa where their ancestors lived for at least 20,000 years. Most are, or were, hunter-gatherers: men hunt for meat, mainly antelope, women harvest wild berries, nuts and roots.
The lands of most Bushmen were taken by cattle-herding tribes or European colonists. Many Bushmen were killed; others now get occasional work as servants or cattle men. But some Bushmen still live in their ancestral land and hunt for food.
Survival International is a charity which helps Bushmen and other tribal peoples to protect themselves, keep their own land, and live the way they want to.
